Follow Up After Embryo Transfer Procedure

When you started IVF (In vitro fertilization), after embryo transfer into the uterus need to feel like you are already pregnant women. Transfer day is the exciting day in the IVF process. You will have medicine, injection, instruction, and ultra healthy diet to follow. Remember one thing in mind after embryo transfer your health is most priority. You need some instruction to follow after embryo transfer procedure.

Some specific post transfer instructions with you on the day of your embryo transfer. Plan for pamper yourself for next day of embryo transfer. No vigorous exercise, no lifting, running etc. general moments are allowed in these times. 

Pamper Yourself

The embryo will implant in your uterus on these days so it’s important that you relax and think positive, nurturing thoughts. If possible take leave on your work for few days and relax. Come out from the worrying world. This time you keep surround surface happy. Do the things which make you happy like reading good books, music, taking with your partner, enjoying your favorite healthy food, watch funny shows in TV. Bed rest is necessary if you can’t take full bed rest means you can put your feet up and ask your partner to do any chores you want done. We won’t tell like that!!!!

Continue taking medicine


You are instructed to take medicine continuously till the date mentioned by the doctors. All supplements need to take. Progesterone especially is critical to sustaining a pregnancy, and you will follow to continue those medicines. 

Eat healthy food


You need to have healthy diet in preparation for IVF process and you should continue to do that. After all if all goes according to plan you will carry a baby inside the body. This is great time to encourage the healthy eating habits for more supplements during pregnancy.

For that you want to eat various large amounts of fruits and vegetables, foods rich in calcium, proteins, B vitamins and iron. It will help for prenatal pregnancy.   

Folic acid supplements

For planning pregnancy it’s good idea to begin taking folic acid supplement. Folic acid supplementation has been shown to lower the risk of neuro-tube defects, heart defects and cleft palate. So it’s a need to take folic acid supplements after embryo transfer.

Limit exposure to chemicals

It is necessary to be careful about your exposure to the chemical which is used. Every pregnancy women won’t use endocrine disrupting chemical for there health. Endocrine disrupting chemicals are found in many everyday items. Mostly try to limit your exposure to these items.

Don’t ignore trouble symptoms

This time is very important to give more attention to your body and if you feel like anything uncomforted contact your doctors immediately. It’s nothing worrying or being sad about health and wealth of your baby. 

You need to keep eye on some symptoms which may occur in the days after embryo transfer.   

Women who are taking fertility drugs may also develop a condition called ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome (OHSS). This syndrome will happens when the body responds dramatically to the injection of hormone that will take for total IVF process. 

Ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome may cause symptoms like:

  • Abdominal pain 
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea

These symptoms might be mild, but they can also be get worse very quickly if you have serious case on this syndrome.

 If your weight is gaining or feel severe pain in belly part then don’t wait. Call the doctors and explain about those symptoms.

Avoid sex

Sexual activity is discouraged for time while. Sexual intercourse can trigger uterine contraction, which will disturb the embryos which are placed in the endometrial active. It could prevent the embryo from implanting in your uterus or lead to s miscarriage.    

Avoid repeated pregnancy tests

You may be tempted to jump the gun and take pregnancy test. Please don’t do this. Your body will take few weeks to build up enough of the pregnancy hormone, HCG, necessary to confirm that you are pregnant. 

Diet to follow after embryo transfer

  • Fill bowl of fresh fruits and vegetables and take.
  • Choose lean protein, like fish and poultry.
  • Take more amounts of whole grains.
  • Add legumes including beans, chickpeas and lentils into your diet plan.
  • Switch to low fat dairy products.
  • Eat healthy fats like avocado, nuts, and seeds. 
  • Avoid red meet, sugar, refined grains, and other highly processed foods.
  • Avoid over salt. Flavor food with herbs and spices instead you need to take.

Supplements to take

There are few natural supplements you can take to help to support a new pregnancy. Start prenatal vitamins before the IVF cycle. Vitamin is critically important, to protects against brain and spinal birth defects in developing fetuses. 

Vitamin d levels are low means need to start vitamin D supplements before IVF cycle.
